Academic consulting guides master's and doctoral students or researchers through research design, literature review, choice of method, statistical analysis, referencing and article structure. The consultant does not write the thesis or paper for the student; they help the student build their own work correctly, interpret their data and bring it in line with journal or graduate-school rules. Language editing, formatting checks and presentation preparation can also fall within this scope.
What to check when hiring for academic consulting
- Clarify what you need: choosing a topic, method, analysis, writing structure or the journal submission process.
- Review the consultant's academic background and publications in your field.
- Make sure the service respects academic integrity — it must not involve writing the text for you.
- Before sharing research data containing personal information, check your ethics approval and anonymisation rules.
- Share your institution's or target journal's style guide at the first meeting.
academic consulting: frequently asked questions
Can an academic consultant write my thesis?
No. That breaches academic integrity and can lead to serious sanctions. A consultant only guides method, analysis and writing; the text must be your own.
How can I get help with statistical analysis?
You can work together on choosing a test suited to your research question, running it in software and interpreting the results correctly.
My paper was rejected by a journal. Can a consultant help?
They can help you assess reviewer comments, build a revision plan and structure your response letter.
